UVM’s Center for Community News has created an interactive map displaying historical turnout statistics from municipalities across Vermont. Explore each town to view floor vote rates and Australian ballot rates (which include absentee ballot counts).

Town Meeting Day, celebrated annually on the first Tuesday in March, is a cornerstone of Vermont’s democratic tradition. In these local elections, different municipalities vote in different ways.
Some towns still hold traditional floor votes, a rare example of direct democracy in action. Increasingly, others have adopted the Australian (paper) ballot, which is the dominant method of voting in America.
Many towns offer a mix of Australian ballot and floor vote depending on the questions at hand. As a result, percentages do not add to 100%.
Red markers indicate polling locations. Use the year selector to compare turnout across different years. Data was sourced from the Vermont Secretary of State’s office and is available here.
